What does a backend developer do?

A backend developer builds the part of a product nobody sees: the APIs the app calls, the data it stores, and the jobs that run when nobody is looking.

The work is less about any one framework and more about what happens when a thousand people do the same thing at once. This roadmap goes from one language to that question.
